EA Hire Awarded TJH Box Jacking Project - An Australian Construction First

EA HIRE & SISTER COMPANY, SU UNDERGROUND
AWARDED BOX JACKING WORKS A CONSTRUCTION FIRST FOR AUSTRALIA

After two years working underground for Thiess John Holland on Brisbane's Airport Link project, EA Hire Equipment and sister company, SU Underground has been awarded one of the country's most exciting construction projects, the box jacking works on the Turnbull section of the link.

Boxing jacking construction has been widely used in the US and Europe, although has been rarely employed in Australia to date.

Our teams are thrilled to be given the opportunity to challenge and hone their skills in pioneering the largest box jacking project to be undertaken in the Southern Hemisphere.

A total of 8 "jack in the boxes" each containing a 5 tonne excavator has been lowered into the tunnel at the Turnbull section of the linkand placed in a configuration of 2 rows of 3 boxes across and finishing with 2 boxes at the top. Each of our operators works their machine within the framework of the box working in sequence to remove the ground in front and then continue on pushing forward until the tunnel is complete.

The project spread over 10 to 12 weeks will engage 3 crews working around the clock 7 days a week to complete the program.

Works are now well underway and jacking of the second box, including demolition of this section of headwall has commenced.
